Dennis Depcik: Book Talk

April 19 at 7:00 the museum hosts a book talk by Dennis Depcik, local author of Wouldn’t It Be Something. He’ll share his lovely, emotional experience of falling in love with his future wife through letter writing and rediscovering those letters 41 years later after her death. This event is free, no registration is necessary.

FREE Halloween dog costume contest

Join us at the Museum on October 24 at 10:45 AM for a Halloween dog costume contest. Dress up your dog in the most unique and creative Halloween costume. The contest categories are small dog (0 – 25 lbs), medium dog (25 – 45 lbs), large dog (45 lbs or more), and best family costume. Prizes will be awarded for each category.

Any sized dog and their whole family is eligible for the best themed family costume category. This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. No registration necessary. It’s bound to be a tail-wagging good time!

Boy Scouts Badge Day

Open enrollment for the museum’s Boy Scout Badge Day on October 12 is going on now. Individual scouts or entire troops are welcome to register. Sign up to fulfill the Forestry and Archaeology badge requirements. The instructor is a certified merit badge counselor. Badges are not included. bs badge oct 12 copy

All scouts (with or without a troop) are welcome to participate in the merit badge day at the Museum. At the end, scouts will have earned their Indian Lore and Geocaching badges. The instructor is a qualified merit badge counselor and will be able to sign badge cards. Cost is $10 per scout (patches not included).

History on Tap: beer tasting and crime stories

Love beer? Enjoy a good true crime story? Join us at the museum for an adults only event on October 7th.  Tickets include Lake Bluff Brewing Company beer tasting, a true crime talk, and all-you-can-eat appetizers. Parking and museum admission is free.  Hurry to reserve your spot. Space is limited to 40 people. Tickets must be purchase in advance. Ticket options: buy them in person at the museum or Lake Bluff Brewery, by phone at (847) 850.2100 or register online. See you there!

Junior FLL Celebration at the museum

Jr.FLL_Poster_2013The museum is excited to host a Junior First Lego League expo event again this year. The Junior FLL is a youth program to foster interest in science and innovation by designing Lego robot models to solve real-life problems.

The museum will be hosting the Lego robotics celebration on Saturday, April 12 from 10-12.00 showcasing robots and project demonstrations from local teams from area that participated in the Disaster Blaster challenge this year.

If your team is interested in signing up, more info can be found in the registration packet below or by contacting Debbie at DFandrei@bgparks.org. Registration and a $30 team fee (covers certificates and medals for each team member) is required for participation. If you’re just interested in seeing neat Lego robotics, this event is free and does not require registration so just stop in and check it out!
