What image comes to mind when you think of archaeology? Perhaps you conjure images of romantic far off dusty places, exotic jungles, lost tombs and treasure. What many people do not realize is that archaeology is not just relic hunting. It is a science and while many archaeologists travel to distant places, there is no need to travel far to see an archaeological site. In some cases, you may only need to travel to your own backyard.
Buffalo Grove and its surrounding communities have been inhabited for at least 12,000 years. From the prehistoric Native Americans to the more recent farming settlements, people have left their mark in and around our town! Artifacts similar to the ones on display at the museum still exist under our roads, sidewalks and even in backyards.
